Black Menace

New Orleans natives BLACK MENACE have been a national thriving force since the early 1990’s. Their musical success spans over a decade showing no signs of stopping as they hastily approach their 20 year anniversary in the music industry.

Jay Da Menace (J Dawg) born Ronald Jones Jr., Threat born Wilson Williams, and DJ Jaz born Edward Woods released their debut album Ghetto Ass Nigga in early 1992 under Hollygrove Records. Looking to transition with the movement of the rap industry, Jay Da Menace and Threat became a duo. After meeting with the executives of Hollygrove Records, both parties agreed the album’s success had exceeded everyone’s expectations. They parted ways and went on to release two singles “Put on a Vest Nigga” and “Go Off” with Prime Suspect Records in late 1992.

Eager to record their sophomore album, Jay and Threat signed with New Orleans powerhouse Big Boy Records and released Really Doe in 1993. The success of their hit single, “Anotha Day Anotha Dolla” helped to launch their career as they set out to become international artist.

In 1995, the group reached their goal of becoming national artist with the release of their third album Drama Time. The first single, “Family” and the second single, “Watch Me Hit Em” helped the album sell over 200,000 units nation-wide.

In 1997, the group disbanded and both members recorded solo albums. Jay Da Menace released 2 albums, Smokin and Rollin and The Dawg House on the same day with Big Boy Records; Threat released Drama As Usual with Strugglin’ and Strivin’ Records.

The group came together in 2001 marking the eve of the group’s 10 year anniversary. They proceeded to record their fourth album, Mo Drama, with Menace Entertainment. This album featured the adrenaline filled “Don’t Talk about It, Be about It” representative of the duo’s edgy and assertive nature.

The monumental album I Could Hold My Own was released in 2007 when the duo accomplished their lifelong goal of becoming an internationally recognized group. They reinvented their style and perfected their sound to continue to gratify the expectations of their devoted fans.

Still diligent as ever, Black Menace is currently in the studio recording their self-titled sixth album. They have begun a new venture with H.I.T.Z. International where Jay Da Menace is President with several new projects to come. The duo’s catalog of collaborations includes label mates Partners-N-Crime, Juvenile, Mystikal, Fiend, Ghetto Twins, Mia X, G Slim, Insane, G Quick, and many more. The new album Black Menace is expected to be released in 2010.
